How to Compare Electric Brooms
- Electric broom power, measured in watts, determines how strong a broom's motor is. As of December 2010, one electric broom had 800 watts of power with a 28-foot power cord. Electric brooms with cordless, rechargeable motors have less power.
- Weight is important when comparing electric brooms. The brooms are designed to be carried throughout the house, up and down stairs, so your electric broom should be light enough to lift and manipulate with ease.
- If you have a large house with a lot of floor area to clean, look for an electric broom with a wide brush so you can clean faster. A difference of just one inch in brush width will add up over time.
- Look for features such as crevice tools and upholstery brushes. Some electric brooms have a removable hand-held vacuum on board. Check the power controls and the dust-compartment door for ease of use.
- Compare warranties when you compare prices of electric brooms. A more expensive model with a one-year warranty could cost less in the long run if it outlasts a cheaper broom.
