How to Make a Folding Leather Change Purse
- 1). Mark holes along perimeter of each piece of leather, ¼ to 1/8 inch apart. Stitch along one long side and the two short sides of your change purse. Apply instant adhesive to the plastic loop closure tape. Glue tape to each side of the long opening in your change purse. Allow glue to dry overnight.
- 2). Mark a double row of holes across the short side of the leather change purse, 1/8 inch to the right and 1/8 inch to the left of the center line between each end. Stitch along each row of holes to make the fold seam.
- 3). Tool the design of your choice into the leather. Fairy and princess themed designs, dolls and high-heeled shoe outlines are good for quinceaneras. Tool Hebrew lettering into the leather for bar and bat mitzvah and Hanukkah gifts. Trees, wreaths, Jesus' cradle, Santas, elves, drums, dolls, donkeys, sheep, crowns, toys and stars are all good for Christmas or yule. Tool images of household objects, high heeled shoes, wedding bouquets and bride and groom outlines make great housewarming and wedding gift designs. Dye the leather green, red and black for Kwanzaa, and stamp with Swahili words, images of corn, sheaves of grain, and open books.
- 4). Paint the tooled images with various colors of leather dye. Be careful not to let the colors from one area mix with colors from adjoining areas. Allow the leather change purse to dry overnight.
- 5). Bead or quill designs onto the leather as desired, with or without tooled designs. Fold your leather change purse and carry it in your pocket. Give additional folding leather change purses as gifts throughout the year.
