How to Convert a Movie From WMV to an iPod

    • 1). Download and install an iPod video converter. You will need to convert your WMV file to an MP4. There are a number of programs that do this, such as Any Video Converter, Videora and HandBrake. (See Resources for downloads.)

    • 2). Select the file you want to convert. In HandBrake, click "Source," then "Video File." In Videora, select "Convert" then "Select File." In Any Video Converter, you simply click "Add File."

    • 3). Set your output to MP4. Videora automatically does this. In HandBrake, it's under "Output Settings, "Container." In AVC, this is done from a drop-down menu next to "Profile" in the upper-right corner.

    • 4). Select where your converted video will be saved. In HandBrake, press "Browse" under the "Destination" to select your folder. In Videora, as as soon as you select the file to convert, an output dialog will appear. Press "Browse" to find your folder. In Any Video Converter, press "File," then "Set Output Folder."

    • 5). Name your file. On Any Video Converter, your file will automatically be named the same as the file title of the input WMV. The same is true in HandBrake. In Videora, you can give it a new title, if you want.

    • 6). Convert the video. In any of these programs, press the "Convert" button and the WMV will start converting to an MP4. For a long video, this process could take a few hours.

    • 7). Test the video in iTunes. Before you put it on your iPod, test it in iTunes by dragging your new file into your library. If it plays, it's ready for iPod use.
