How to Install an Exterior Dryer Vent

    • 1). Choose a spot on the laundry room wall to vent the dryer. Use a stud finder to make sure it's not on a stud, and don't pick a spot near any electrical outlets. Make sure the area outside the wall, where it will vent, is unobstructed and at least 2 feet up from the ground.

    • 2). Bore a hole from the inside of the wall to the outside with your long pilot bit.

    • 3). Go outside, with your drill and hole-saw bit. Bore a hole through the exterior wall centered on the pilot hole that you drilled earlier.

    • 4). Use a caulk gun to apply caulk around the back side of the vent cap (the part that will sit against the exterior wall).

    • 5). Slide the wall tube through the hole, with the vent cap attached to the back. Push the tube through until the vent cap is pressed to the wall (facing down) and the tube is all the way through.

    • 6). Run a bead of caulk around the line where the vent cap meets the wall.

    • 7). Return to the laundry room. Caulk around the tube where it emerges from the wall. Attach the flexible vent hose between the wall tube and the dryer, securing it at both ends with the metal clamp-belts.
