Homemade Carpet Cleaner That You Vacuum Up
- 1). Mix four parts baking soda and one part cornstarch into a large bowl. Mix these dry ingredients well with a wooden spoon.
- 2). Crumble lavender blossoms in your hands to activate the potent scent if using lavender. Add this to the dry ingredients in the bowl. Crumble rose blossoms in your hands and add these if you are using rose blossoms. Measure 2 to 3 tsp. of ground cinnamon if using cinnamon.
- 3). Stir the ingredients well with the wooden spoon to combine them.
- 4). Sprinkle the mixture generously over the carpet. Strive to cover the carpet thoroughly so very little carpet fibers show beneath the layer of carpet cleaner.
- 5). Allow the carpet cleaner to sit on the carpet for at least one hour. A longer sitting time may be beneficial for especially pungent odor problems--overnight is also acceptable.
- 6). Vacuum up the carpet cleaner after it sits on the carpet for the desired length of time. Continue vacuuming until the carpet is completely clean of all remnants of the carpet cleaner.
- 7). Empty the vacuum cleaner receptacle or change the vacuum cleaner bag.
