Creative Gift Wrapping Ideas for Cookies

Gift Basket

Gift baskets are pretty standard when it comes to wrapping up a menagerie of gifts, but it may not be expected when packaging cookies. Line the basket with colored tissue paper, then fill with cookies that have been wrapped with colored or clear plastic wrap. Place the basket on top of a large, clear, colored or patterned sheet of cellophane. Gather the edges of the cellophane, pull them up and fasten with a ribbon. Finish with a decorative bow and a gift tag.

Gift Box

Purchase a papier-mâché or Chinese take-out-style gift box from your local craft store. Decorate the box with spray paint, a painted design, glitter, stickers or other embellishments. If you are using a sturdy box that can be used again, you may even consider adding a personal collage of photographs. Line with wax paper or wax-coated tissue paper and stack the cookies inside of the box.

Potato Chip Canister

Tall potato chip canisters make excellent containers for stacking small, round cookies. Peel the label off of the canister, then cover with sturdy construction paper, patterned scrapbook paper, contact paper or wrapping paper. Fill with cookies and finish off with a decorative bow.

Coffee Mug

For a very personalized gift, hand-paint a mug at your local create-your-own-pottery studio, or paint your own at home. Wrap cookies in cellophane, fasten with a ribbon, and place inside the mug. You may of course also purchase a pre-decorated mug. For an extra-special touch, tie a tag to the mug's handle with a special note and your cookie recipe.

Cookie Bouquets

Create a beautiful and memorable cookie bouquet by purchasing a terra cotta pot, Styrofoam or florists' foam to fit the pot, heat-proof wooden sticks or skewers, colored cellophane and ribbon. Make your favorite cookie dough recipe that produces thick cookies and shape into flowers, hearts or other desired forms. Press the sticks or skewers into the bottom of the cookies and bake. Once the cookies have completely cooled, you may decorate them as you wish. Then, wrap each one with cellophane and tie with a ribbon. Poke the sticks into the Styrofoam or florist's foam, arranging them into an appealing cookie bouquet.
