Homemade Trellis for Houseplants
- 1). Lay three or four thick branches on the ground or table to use for support. The number of branches you need depends on how big your plant is and the size trellis you desire to make. Choose branches that are about as thick as your thumb. Cut the branches to the same size.
- 2). Collect several thinner branches to weave in between the thicker branches. These branches will actually hold the climbing plants. Place a thinner branch on top of an outer support branch, then weave underneath the next branch. Weave the branch over top the next thicker branch. Continue this technique until you reach the outer support branch on the other side. Repeat the process until you have filled in the trellis to your liking with thin branches.
- 3). Tie the thinner branches to the thick branches using floral wire or twine. Wrap the tying material several times around the branch intersections to form an X pattern and then tie a tight knot.
- 4). Stand the trellis behind your house plant; if it fits, put it in the dirt in the plant's pot. You could also nail the trellis to a wall behind the plant and weave the vines on the trellis.
