Instructions for Building an Antler Chandelier
- 1). Clean the hollow insides of your antlers using oil soap.
- 2). Paint or stain your antlers, or cover them in a polyurethane coat to protect their natural appearance.
- 3). Sort your antler sheds into two groups: antlers with good tips for mounting light bulbs and supporting antlers.
- 4). Arrange your antlers into an approximation of the finished chandelier, deciding exactly which antler tips will house chandelier lights. Play with all the antlers until they fit together, creating a circular base of antlers which interlock and somewhat reinforce each other.
- 5). Drill holes through the antler tips in which you plan to attach lights. Also drill holes on the antlers around the inside of the circular base, making sure to drill two holes in each antler side.
- 6). String the long wire from your chandelier kit into these side holes. Push the wire through one hole and out the other, all around the circle base. Pull on the wire to remove slack in the wire and secure the base. Secure the base further with wood glue, if necessary.
- 7). Run wiring through the bottoms of the antlers you drilled for chandelier lights. Pull the wiring out through the drilled tips of the antlers. Attach the light sockets from your chandelier lighting kit to these wires, following the directions included with your kit.
- 8). Close up all your drill holes with a little antler filler or clay. Cover up your filled holes with paint or stain.
- 9). Finish the general assembly of the remaining components of your chandelier lighting kit, according to the kit's instructions, to complete the process.
