Polar Bears Arts & Crafts for Preschoolers
- Help students make a paper collage of a polar bear walking along the horizon. Use a sheet of black or light-blue paper (or card) to create the background for the sky. A shortened sheet of white paper or card is stuck over the bottom of the colored background to represent the snow-laden North Pole. (The white sheet can be cut straight or hilly.) Lastly, the students can draw and cut out a walking polar bear from white card stock and this can be glued onto the picture, positioned on the center of the horizon and set against the contrasting color of the sky.
- Preschoolers can paint a mosaic of a polar bear. using bright poster color paints and fingers. Encourage them to be free to be expressive in their paintings. Show them how to dip their fingers into paint and apply paint onto the paper by a series of finger dots onto the colored paper. In a mosaic, it is important for the color of the paper to show though the gaps between the finger dots. Ensure that the students' hands are thoroughly washed afterward for health and safety.
- Let students make cute polar bear greeting cards to give to close relatives. Use a handful of soft, fluffy white pompon balls, which can found in craft packs available at arts and crafts stores. White cotton wool balls are a cheap and convenient substitute. Get the preschoolers to stick the white fluffy balls onto the front of a folded piece of colored card to create a fluffy polar bear. Sprinkle on some glitter to make it sparkle. Help them to write a simple verse on the inside of their cards to complete it.
- With a pack of air clay, preschoolers can make a polar bear name plaque to put up on their bedroom doors. Follow the instructions on the pack of clay. Get the students to knead it before rolling it out flat with a rolling pin, as if making pastry. The next step is to draw an outline of a polar bear in the clay and to cut it out using a plastic craft knife. After the cutout has dried, it can be painted with white acrylic paint, with the student's name written on top of it.
