How to Repair a Villaware Ice Cream Maker

    • 1). Test the power cord with a multimeter to determine if it is the power cord that has problems or if the motor is malfunctioning. Insufficient power to the motor will cause problems; the machine will not turn on or will have difficulty turning the paddle at the proper speed. One possible cause of insufficient power is a shorted power cord.

    • 2). Inspect the paddle for damage if the ingredients are not mixing properly. The notch at the bottom of the paddle might have worn away, which would result in the paddle not turning. Other damage to look for includes large cracks or bent sections. A worn or bent paddle must be replaced.

    • 3). Disassemble the motor, using a screwdriver, to check the gears and other motor parts. Unscrew the motor base and carefully pull off the cover. This provides access to the gears and motor. Clean any debris from around the motor and gears.

    • 4). Check that all gears are in good working order. The paddle will not turn properly and the motor will not run if the gears are worn or damaged gears. Replace gears as needed.

    • 5). Test the motor with the multimeter to ensure that the motor circuit has not been damaged.

    • 6). Replace any broken parts with replacement parts obtained from the company.

    • 7). Lubricate the motor, drive shaft and motor bearings if the gears are fine but the paddle is not turning. Lubricating the ball bearings with a lightweight machine oil will also fix a noisy ice cream motor. The lubricant will make all the working parts move more easily, by decreasing friction.
