How to Make Jewelry From Shells

    • 1). Gently wash any shells that came from the beach in mild soap and water to remove dirt and sand particles. If the shells were purchased at a craft store, this step can be skipped.

    • 2). Sort your shells by size, depending on what kind of jewelry you are making. If you are making earrings, be sure that you have matching shells for each earring. If you are making a necklace, pick out shells that are similar in shape and size.

    • 3). Drill a hole into the top of the shells you are using to make your necklace or pendant. Brush away the dust from drilling the hole.

    • 4). Attach shells with hot glue to ear post blanks to make earrings. You do not need to drill a hole.

    • 5). Take the cord or wire you have chosen for the necklace and attach a jump ring to one end of the cord or wire. String on your shells. If you want a space between the shells, add a jump bead between each shell. Once you have all the shells on the necklace that you want, attach a jump ring to the other side of the cord or wire and trim away any excess. Attach a clasp to the jump rings and your necklace is now complete.

    • 6). Attach a jump ring through the hole in the shell and attach a bail hook to the jump ring to make a pendant. Add a chain of your choice and it is now ready to be worn.
