How to Make a Vintage Vest for Men

    • 1). Choose a vest pattern or make one in the style of your choosing. You will need to choose fabric based on the pattern specifications you have chosen, making sure to have at least 1 or more yard of fabric and fleece for both the inside lining and outside of the vest.

    • 2). Lay down your pattern and cut out the necessary pieces for your vest. You should have one back piece and two front pieces. Repeat this step using the fleece material. Lay out the back piece of the vest with the right side of the fabric facing down. Pin the fleece piece, with the right side facing up, to the fabric using the sewing pins. Sew the fleece to the fabric, removing the pins as you go. Repeat this process with the two flaps of the vest.

    • 3). Carefully put all three vest segments together using the sewing pins. Sew the vest together, making sure to allow room for the armpit holes. The addition of buttons elevates the vintage feel of the vest. Place the buttons on the outer corner of either side of the vest and sew into place, staying as close to the edge as possible. Button holes can be carefully cut on the other side of the vest, but if the vest is more for style than practicality, it is not necessary.
