Monna Tancia: Alone with Lorenzo

In 1478 a plague swept San Giovanni Valdarno, and among the dead were a young man named Francesco and his wife Santa, who were survived by a three month-old son, Lorenzo, and Francesco's elderly mother, Monna Tancia. Since nobody wanted anything to do with plague victims Monna Tancia couldn't find a wet nurse, and finally begged the Virgin above one of the town gates to do something to save her grandson.
