Him"ll Fix it - What Qualifications Does an Appliance Engineer Need?

Can you believe that you don't actually have to have any qualifications or training to be a practicing appliance repair engineer? It's extraordinary really when you think about the huge skill set required to carry out this job efficiently and all the things that could go wrong.
The only thing any handy man or appliance repair engineer needs is public liability insurance.
Public liability (PL) insurance covers any damages or legal costs arising from any injury to a member of the public when they visit your premises or as a result of anything you do when you're at their premises.
This is an essential insurance to have if you are self-employed and/or work from home because accidents do happen and the blame and claim culture we're so very fond of could end up costing you a lot of money which in turn could dent or cripple your turnover or ruin your reputation.
Public liability insurance is all very well but as a consumer, do we really want to take the risk that the person we get round to fix our washing machine, television, dishwasher or fridge freezer could do further, irreparable damage to the item in question or that you could end up getting an electric shock or some other injury directly from a result of a dodgy repair.
To avoid these pitfalls, don't just resort to buying new, instead find a reputable and recommended appliance repair website, company or individual, they do exist! The website is an amazing tool and apart from doing your grocery shopping, booking a holiday or sending a parcel, you can now also find appliance engineers that are local to you and that come recommended by real people.
These people have no hidden agenda but are actual customers that have used and been impressed (or not) with the website, company or individual in question and whose comments you can trust.
Appliance repair engineers don't have to be dubious and in fact, the majority are legitimate and should give you a decent price and provide and good service but it's worth looking and asking around.
We've all seen or heard about rogue traders and it can be very hard to prosecute or get your money back if you end up with the one that gives all the rest a bad name.
