How to Make Your Own Towel Valet
- 1). Draw a 7-inch circle on a piece of 1 x 8-inch wood with a compass. Place a mark at the exact center of the circle. Cut the 7-inch circle from the 1 x 8-inch piece of wood with a bandsaw.
- 2). Measure and mark a 1-inch dowel 18 inches long to use as the center post for the towel valet. Measure and mark a 1/2-inch dowel into two 8-inch sections to use as the bars on the towel valet. Cut the dowels on the marks with a bandsaw.
- 3). Measure from one end of the 1-inch cut dowel and place a mark four inches from the end. Secure the dowel in a drill press so the mark is pointing up. Line the drill press up with the mark and drill through the dowel. Make sure to use a drill bit that is the same size as the diameter of the double-sided screw.
- 4). Drill a pilot hole in the end of the two 1/2-inch dowels smaller than the diameter of the double-sided screw.
- 5). Place the double sided screw through the hole of the 1-inch dowel center post. Screw one 1/2-inch dowel bar on each side of the center post. Make sure each 1/2-inch dowel is flush with the center post.
- 6). Place the center mark on the 7-inch circle under the drill bit on the drill press. Drill through the board. Make sure to use a drill bit just smaller than the diameter of the wood screw.
- 7). Drill a pilot hole in the bottom of the center post. The bottom of the post is the end farthest away from the bars.
- 8). Place the 7-inch circle on a flat surface so the back side is facing up. Screw the wood screw through the circle from the bottom to the top until it touches the flat surface. Flip the board over and continue screwing the wood screw through the board until the head is flush with the back of the circle base.
- 9). Place the pilot hole on the center column over the wood screw. Screw the center column onto the base until it is flush with the surface.
