How to Place a Sectional in a Room

    • 1). Measure the sectional and measure the room you'd like to put it in by length and width. If you have any windows in the room, you may also want to measure the height of the sectional and the height from the floor to the window.

    • 2). If you already have the rest of the room's decor figured out, as far as where the television is or if you have a fireplace that you'd like to be the focal point of the room, then you should figure out an approximate place for the couch and which way it will face.

    • 3). If you don't already have the other furniture in place or a focal point selected, try putting the sectional at several different angles and several different spots in the room. Consider the other pieces of furniture and how they will fit when you do this. Consider the windows and possible glare on a television screen, also.

    • 4). Divide the sectional up and try putting part of the sectional in one place in the room and part of it in another. If you do divide the sectional, a small table could be put in between each piece so that they don't look unfinished. A chaise could be left alone or attached to the rest of the sectional and look fine either way.

    • 5). Think of non-traditional ways to fit your sectional sofa in the room. A round sectional could be placed with its back in the very corner of a room, which would open up more space to the rest of the room. A plant or potted tree would fit perfectly in the corner space behind the curve of the sectional.

    • 6). It's easier to move the sectional in pieces and to use "couch sliders" under the feet to help you glide the furniture into different configurations until you are satisfied with the look.
