Is it Better to Glue or Tape a Wig?
- Apply wig tape to your hairline and the wig for a hold lasting three to five days. You can reinforce your tape with a liquid glue or adhesive for extra wear, but you should remove and replace the tape within five days of wear.
- Glues, also known as medical-grade adhesives, offer a longer-lasting hold. Wig manufacturer Denovo Hair notes that brands such as Mity Tite can last up to 10 days while brands such as Safe Grip and Ultra Hold offer adhesive strength that can last up to 30 days.
- Adhesives manufacturers also make removal solvents; however, you can also use medical-grade rubbing alcohol to remove excess tape adhesive from your wig's hairline.
- Swab your hairline with alcohol to ensure that it is oil-free prior to wig attachment. When using liquid glues, apply a knot-sealer to the hairline of your wig to prevent damaging the wig. After removing your wig, use a solvent to clean any remaining adhesive on the wig.
- Wig manufacturer Denovo Hair recommends that you avoid sweat-inducing activities and wetting your hairline for 24 hours after applying your wig.
