- Serious side effects of Ativan are hallucinations, fainting, confusion, hyperactivity and suicidal thoughts. A patient experiencing any of these side effects should seek medical attention right away.
- Less serious side effects of Ativan are forgetfulness, muscle weakness, blurred vision, drowsiness, nausea and skin rash. Most effects will lessen after continued use.
- Do not use Ativan if you are allergic to Xanax or Valium. You should not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Ativan can be habit forming.
- Drugs that may have bad interactions with Ativan include MAO inhibitors, barbiturates, narcotics and antidepressants.
- Signs of an overdose with Ativan are coma, muscle weakness, fainting or extreme drowsiness. If you suspect an overdose, you should seek medical attention right away because an Ativan overdose can be fatal.
