- In a Mediterranean climate, summers are warm and humid. Winters are mild.
- Rome has mild winters and hot summers, with temperatures often reaching 37 degrees C.
- Rome is wettest in the winter. November and December have the highest rainfall. Summers are dry, particularly July and August.
- Thunderstorms are common during the summer, although there is not usually much rain. Mid-latitude cyclones frequently hit during the winter, bringing heavy rainfall.
- Snow is rare. In February 2010 the Guardian newspaper reported the first snow in the city since 2005. It was the heaviest snowfall since about 20 cm fell in February 1986.
- The Lonely Planet recommends that spring, from March to June, and early autumn, in September and October, are the best times to visit Rome, due to their mild temperatures and clear skies.
