How to increase your energy levels by getting rid of toxins
- 1). Decide which detox diet to follow. You can choose from numerous diets, but select one recommended by a reputable health magazine or website.
- 2). Consult your family doctor before starting the detox diet, particularly if you have a known health problem or if you're taking prescription medication. Pregnant women should never diet, according to the United Kingdom's National Health Service.
- 3). Study the directions of your chosen detox diet. Most permit you to eat only raw fruit and vegetables and drink only water or fruit juice for a short period of time. Gentler whole-food detox diets include brown rice and a few pulses. Buy the supplies you need from a grocery store or supermarket.
- 4). Set a date for the detox diet. Try to choose a time when you will be free from pressure, stress or social engagements that might tempt you to break the diet.
- 5). Prepare a menu for each day of the diet. This might include fruit and juice for breakfast, a vegetable salad for lunch and a vegetable bake with brown rice in the evening. Detox diets usually allow you to snack on fruit or raw vegetable sticks between meals. Try to vary the fruit and vegetables on the menu to make the diet more interesting.
- 6). Juice raw vegetables or fruit. Do this each morning and keep a covered pitcher of juice in the fridge. However, don't leave the juice to stand for too long as the nutrients will soon dissipate after juicing. Try to drink 2 litres of filtered water each day to aid the detox process.
- 7). Exclude all sugary drinks, coffee, tea, chocolate, drugs, alcohol and tobacco. This is a requirement of all detox programmes.
- 8). Allow time for rest and relaxation. Most programmes recommend plenty of sleep and relaxation to help your body purge itself of accumulated toxins.
