Video: Formula to Make a Flat Circle in Double Crochet

Video Transcript

Hello. My name is Renaissance Austin, owner of Raghouse International Boutique, and today I will be showing you the formula of how to crochet a flat circle with double crochet. Some circles are too ruffly and some circles buckle. So, I'm going to show you the formula on how to create a flat circle. Generally every pattern will have you start a circle with a chain four, a chain three and then you're going to create twelve double crochet into the middle of your circle. That chain three counts as one. Your second row is going to be twenty four. Which means you're doubling each stitch on the second round. On your third round is going to be thirty six which means you're doubling every other stitch on your third round. So as I'm crocheting along, I need to be mindful if my stitches are going into the curve or if they're moving away from the curve. If they're going into the curve then I know I have enough stitches. If they begin going away from the curve, then I need to add an additional stitch to make sure that my circle does not buckle. You can always test the flatness of your circle by laying it flat and pressing it around to make sure it's not overly ruffly and also that it's not buckling. And that is the formula. Thank you for watching. I'm Renaissance Austin, knitwear designer.
