How to Identify the Signs of Hyperthyroidism
- 1). Be on the lookout for changes in your sleeping patterns. You may feel more tired than usual, but still have difficulty sleeping.
- 2). Realize that you may feel hungry all of the time, yet still be losing weight.
- 3). Notice if you feel anxious more than usual, or experience symptoms such as tremors, sweating, chest pain or breathlessness.
- 4). Be aware if you feel your heart racing or notice muscle weakness.
- 5). Remember that your hands may tremble as a result of hyperthyroidism.
- 6). Understand that with an overactive thyroid, you may be unable to tolerate heat the way you used to.
- 7). Check to see if your thyroid gland, which is located on the front of your neck below your Adam's apple, seems to be enlarged.
- 8). Look for changes in your eyes, such as protruding eyeballs, which is a sign of hyperthyroidism.
- 9). Understand that the symptoms of an overactive thyroid can occur gradually, over an extended period of time. Therefore, it can take a while before you realize you are sick.
