How to Rake Leaves While Pregnant
- 1). Consult your primary care physician before beginning any exercise routine or moderate yard and housework.
- 2). Purchase the correct rake. Visit your local home improvement store and try out the rake. Hold the rake as you would if you were in your yard raking leaves. Choose the rake that feels most comfortable for you and your body.
- 3). Dress accordingly. Wear lightweight clothes that keep you warm enough. Once you begin to rake the leaves, your body heat will begin to rise and wearing thick clothing could cause you to become overheated.
- 4). Keep yourself hydrated. No matter what type of work you are performing, keep yourself hydrated with fresh, cool water.
- 5). Put on a pair of garden gloves and grasp the rake. Keep your hands as far as possible without bending your back. Your back should be kept as straight as possible.
- 6). Rake the leaves to the side of your body. Bend at the knees--not at the waist--when picking up piles of leaves. Do not twist your body when raking. Make full motions instead of twists.
- 7). Take breaks every 15 minutes. Take this time to get a drink and relax before beginning again.
- 8). Ask for help. There is no shame is asking someone to help you rake the leaves.
