How to Decorate a Baby Nursery

    • 1). Paint the walls of the baby nursery. Choose warm, soothing colors for the walls and ceiling. Try a soft green or neutral colors such as beige, yellow and creams. Neutral colors are easily matched with most other colors that would be used in a baby nursery such as blues, pinks and greens.

    • 2). Choose your window treatments for the baby nursery. Use soft, flowing fabrics such as cotton or linen. Curtains in solid colors will look best when you use prints for your accessories. Use ribbons, rickrack or lace as curtain tiebacks. Consider using a shelf as a valance. You can display small items on that shelf such as baby shoes, photos and knickknacks.

    • 3). Arrange the furniture in the baby nursery. Use the tall or bulky pieces on the largest walls. Placing the changing table close to the baby's bed will safe you steps when caring for you baby. Never place a crib, bassinet or cradle in front of a window. This can be dangerous for the baby if the window is ever broken.

    • 4). Add wall art to the baby nursery. Shadow boxes filled with a christening gown, the baby's first sleeper and the like is a great way to display those keepsakes. Consider adding the alphabet and numbers painted in bright colors on the wall as decorations. Unused baby clothes on coordinating hangers will add dimension and depth to the baby nursery walls.

    • 5). Choose the accessories for the baby nursery. Place stuffed animals and other toys on dressers and chests. A piggy bank or other child's bank would be a nice touch as well. Throw pillows in a rocking chair in complementary colors or prints will add some color and make the rocking chair more comfortable. A nonslip throw rug will also bring in additional color to the baby nursery. Use decorative baskets to store the "baby necessities" such as powder, ointments and diapers.
