Bedroom Makeover

Your bedroom says a lot about your personality. The paintings on them, the fabrics you use, the furniture and surfaces in it are all about what you cherish and what means most to you. For some people, decorating their own home can be really taxing and mind-boggling. To avoid the hassle, they would rather hire a professional to deal with the interior design and just watch them do the magic for them.

In actuality, giving your own bedroom a makeover need not be difficult. You just have to follow these simple principles to guide you to what you really want.

Step one: figure it out

Figure out how much space you have and what furniture can and cannot be moved. Reconfigure the space of your room by economizing the space. For example, instead of having a queen size bed, why not use a single bed with a pull out or a twin size one?

Step two: Dress up the window

What side of your house is the window located? If your window faces east, it would be nice to have light colored curtains where morning light can shine through. If it lies on the west, you might need heavier drapes to block excess sunlight. It would also be nice to use wooden panels since wood absorbs heat. Wooden panels also help diffuse light and make the room look cozier.

Step three: Bring in some color and balance

If your old bedroom color looks bland, try to use light green to give your walls a relaxing feel. You can use any color you like so long as it suits your taste. Darker colors will make your room feel heavier and lighter shades make you feel more relaxed. Add more colors to your room by throwing in pillows with shades of touches of purple. Also, don't forget to use accessories to give the room more fun.

Step four: Give life to dead space

Any unused area in your room can be converted to a functional space by converting it into a nook by adding a shelf for storing books or stools and a table. You can now use this space to have breakfast or do some light reading.

Making your own bedroom's interior design can surely bring out the artist in you.
