- 1). Verify that your beds do separate. If the beds separate, you probably remember stacking them during assembly. If not, there will be a seam somewhere around the four bed posts, depending on the style of bed.
- 2). Use your rubber mallet to gently hammer upwards onto the bottom of the footboard of the upper bed while your partner applies pressure to the bottom bed. Bunk beds, if separable, hold together by wooden pins. By using your mallet you are loosening the upper bed from these pins. This will allow the beds to separate without causing them any damage.
- 3). Lift the upper bed away from the lower bed with help of your partner.
- 4). Grasp the four wooden pins that are left in the lower bed with your pliers. If you intend to use the beds as bunk beds again, gently pull out the pins with the pliers. If not, you can drive the wooden pins into the lower bed with a hammer.
