How to Control Jealousy and Keep the One You Love

Learning how to control jealousy is absolutely critical if you want to remain with the one you love.
Jealousy (the green eyed monster) is an extremely destructive emotion and can easily wreck any relationship.
I know because I personally used to be a really jealous person when I was a young man.
In retrospect, the problem was more to do with my own insecurity than anything else.
I had a lovely girlfriend.
She was very pretty, had a great figure and was good fun to be with.
In a way, the fact that she was so good looking was a part of the problem for me.
I used to think that every guy in the world was my potential rival.
Every time she was out of my sight I would have images of her in someone else's arms flashing in front of my eyes.
Each time I met up with her I would quiz her on what she had done, where she had been, who she has been with etc.
Of course, I just didn't realize how restrictive I was being.
I just couldn't seem to help myself.
Naturally, in the end, my possessiveness drove her away.
Regrettably, that was not the end of my jealousy problem.
I got married when I was quite young.
We had been engaged for a couple of years and I strove manfully to control my jealousy.
I did quite well, but I have to admit that it made me feel absolutely wretched.
After one year of marriage I found out she was having an affair, and that ended that.
Curiously, when I look back on things, it was that which probably did more to cure me of my jealousy than anything else.
It made me realize that if she was going to do it, she would do it anyway, whether or not I was possessive.
I began to understand that if you are with the right person, you must learn to trust them.
If they genuinely love you, they will not seek to hurt you.
The only thing that can alter that is if you drive them away through jealousy and possessiveness.
I am with a great lady now and I her trust her implicitly.
Life if so much more enjoyable without the specter of the green eyed monster lurking in the background.
