How to Tell If the Scent of a Candle Will Last Before Purchasing
- 1). Buy high quality candles from reputable candlemakers. In general many of the large brands specializing in candle making produce candles that hold scent longer than a bargain store brand. For a starting point on candle brands, consult the Resource section of this article.
- 2). Read the candle label or in-store information about the candle to ensure that it was made using scented oils designed for candles. Higher quality candles state this information by label or in the store, or if the candlemaker is in you can ask him. Multipurpose fragrance oils are used for candles, soaps, lotions and such. Oils made only for candles work best at keeping the fragrance for a long time.
- 3). Look for triple-scented candles. These candles are made of a type of wax that holds more fragrance oil per pound than other candle waxes. The end result is a longer-lasting scent.
- 4). Buy candles from candlemakers who mix their wax and fragrance blend from scratch, rather than using a pre-blended wax. Handmade, blended candles hold on to fragrance longer than other candles.
