How to Troubleshoot a Convection Microwave Oven
- 1). Hold down the "Clear/Off," "Lock" or padlock icon button (shown in the image provided) for a few seconds if a "Locked" or "Control Panel Locked" message appears on the screen. Convection microwave ovens often have a lock-out feature that prevents kids changing settings or starting the appliance.
- 2). Move the oven forward and check if the power cord is still connected to the outlet. Check if the outlet is turned on if your kitchen has switches for its appliances on the wall behind the counter. Test the outlet, if possible, with another small appliance. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if the outlet doesn't work.
- 3). Hit "Cancel" and re-enter your cooking instructions, making sure you enter a cook time, weight and heating level and press "Start" when you are ready to begin. You might be missing an important step or using instructions from the last cooking session. Check that the oven isn't set to "Defrost" or "Delay Start."
- 4). Set the clock. Your microwave oven might not work unless it knows the current time of day. Look for a "Clock" or "Settings" button that enables you to change the time. The exact method you use will depend on your model of oven.
- 5). Open the door and check that the plastic turntable support and glass cooking plate are correctly installed. Your convection microwave oven might come with a metal grill that sits on top of the cooking plate for convection cooking. Remove this grill if you plan on using microwave mode because it will cause arcing. Make sure the turntable support is positioned over the driveshaft on the floor of the oven and the cooking plate is sitting correctly on the support. Firmly close the door before you start cooking.
- 6). Unplug the microwave and wait 30 seconds while the internal computer resets itself. Input error or a power surge could have scrambled the internal computer, causing it to act strangely or become unresponsive. You will need to reset the clock once you disconnect the power supply.
