• The Evita XL is an intensive care ventilator unit designed by Drägerwerk AG, a German company also known simply as Dräger. Designed for use in both adult and pediatric patients, the Evita XL has a number of controlled and assisted ventilation modes. The Evita XL also comes standard with non-invasive ventilation options. Dräger boasts that the Evita XL is capable of assisting patients through all stages of ventilator therapy, including the gradual weaning off of the machine and back to independent lung function.
  
  

Patient Types

• The Dräger Evita XL is designed to be used for adults, children, and infants with a body weight of at least 6.6 lbs. Premature infants can also be treated with the Evita XL with the optional NeoFlow package.
  
  

Ventilation Modes

• The Dräger Evita XL has a number of ventilation modes for a variety of situations. These include intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV), controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV), and synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV). With exception to proportional pressure support (PPS), all are standard on the Evita XL. PPS is an optional feature.
  
  

Ventilation Enhancements

• The Dräger Evita XL has a number of standard and optional features to enhance its performance and patient care. Standard features include Automatic Tube Compensation (ATC) and AutoFlow, which automatically adapts the inspiratory flow in volume controlled modes. Optional enhancements include non-invasive mask ventilation, and the SmartCare pressure support system, which has an automated clinical protocol for operation in continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and assisted spontaneous breathing (ASB) and pressure supported CPAP. The optional Lung Protection package features additional low flow and recruitment maneuvers.
  
  

Values Displayed

• The Dräger Evita XL can display airway pressure in several modes, the minute and tidal volumes, breathing frequency, O2 concentration, lung mechanics, and breathing gas temperature. There are also displays for CO2 production, weaning parameters, dead space ventilation and an optional capnography measure.
  
  

Performance Data

• The Dräger Evita XL has three control principles--time cycled, volume constant, and pressure-controlled control systems. Additionally, the valve response time is less than five seconds, and leakage and hose system compensation is automatic. The maximum flow for pressure support and spontaneous breathing is 180 liters a minute, and the system includes an outlet for a pneumatic nebulizer.
  
  

Physical Specifications

• The Dräger Evita XL is 20.9 inches wide, 12.4 inches high and 17.7 inches deep without its trolley. The screen is a 15-inch thin-film transistor color touch screen. The entire unit weighs about 64 lbs. Digital output and reception is achieved via an RS 232 C interface, with the option to add an additional digital interface. An additional optional feature is an analog output for two measured valves.
