- The PayScale.com Report states that as of September 2010, grant writers made an average total yearly salary of $33,259 to $52,302. The highest-paying industry for this profession is health care, which offers $33,381 to 47,241.
- The more the experience, the higher the salary, with new writers at an annual salary of $30,719 to $42,253. At one to four years of experience, they make $32,762 to $45,192 and at five to nine years, they earn $38,210 to $54,474. At 10 to 19 years, they receive $40,297 to $60,388 and at 20 years or more, they get $47,968 to $60,817.
- The city of employment affects salary, with San Francisco offering the highest pay at $43,398 to $65,003, followed by Los Angeles at $42,500 to $55,314 and Boston at $36,077 to $55,000.
