Fire-Chaplain Job Duties

    Emergency Situations

    • It is the fire chaplain's responsibility to respond when she is contacted by dispatch or fire personnel. The fire chaplain must report to the officer in charge at the scene of the fire.

    Responding

    • A fire chaplain will report to the scene of the fire if a critical incident is in progress, or a death to a firefighter has been reported. A chaplain must also report to the scene if a family member of someone from the department is involved.

    Hospital

    • A fire chaplain must report to the hospital under certain situations. These include incidents where a victim's family needs to be notified, the family needs support or a member of the fire department is a victim.

    Care

    • The fire chaplain is responsible for helping the victims at the scene of a fire. He must care for the family of the victim and take care of the victim or family if they are unstable.

    Pastoral Services

    • A fire chaplain also holds some traditional pastoral responsibilities. Fire chaplains can conduct weddings, hold prayer meetings, conduct funerals and provide counseling.
