Food manufacturers like to tout that their products contain health-friendly antioxidants such as glutathione, which strengthens the immune system. But many basic foods naturally carry this crucial component as well. A diet rich in glutathione reprocesses antioxidants, detoxifies the body and ensures better health, both physical and mental. - An onion does more than make people cry; this layered vegetable also contains glutathione. Other glutathione-carrying veggies include broccoli, cauliflower, watercress and spinach. These foods have high levels of a major glutathione component, sulfur, which soaks up toxins and flushes out the immune system. Eating vegetables raw maximizes their benefits; cooking them can kill their vital nutrients.
- Virtually every fruit on the vine or the tree delivers glutathione. Peaches, strawberries, cantaloupes and watermelons all carry this and other antioxidants. The importance of consuming organic fruits and vegetables lies in the herbicides and other chemicals used to grow mass-produced food. These practices destroy the soil and, consequently, the naturally occurring antioxidants within the earth and the food itself.
- Eggs produce glutamine, which triggers the body to create glutathione. When it comes to health benefits, eggs from range-free chickens typically outweigh eggs from caged chickens, because the range-free animals have not had exposure to growth hormones or cramped conditions.
- Even some lean meats, such as fish, contain glutathione. However, for the same reasons as cage-free eggs are better, only unprocessed meat falls into this category.
