Leaking Heater Valve

    • 1). Tighten a leaky drain valve at the bottom of the unit using a wrench. Inspect the knob that opens and closes the drain valve for leaks and remove and replace it if necessary.

    • 2). Relieve pressure from the unit according to the owner's manual to stop some leaks from the pressure release valve.

    • 3). Turn off the gas to the heater or flip the circuit breaker if it is an electric unit before replacing a pressure relief valve.

    • 4). Close the cold water cut-off valve and drain water from the pressure relief valve and and the rain valve.

    • 5). Remove the pressure release valve from the unit using a wrench if it is not welded on and replace with a new unit. Wrap the threads with teflon tape to prevent leaks before screwing it back in. If the pressure relief valve is welded on, call a service technician.
