How to Do White Hair Dreads

  • 1). Wash and air-dry your hair completely.

  • 2). Comb your hair into square sections of anywhere between 1 or 2 inches to a side. The squares do not need to be exact. The end goal is to have several thick sections of hair separated across your entire scalp. Place a rubber band around the base of each section to secure it.

  • 3). Hold one section of hair separate from the others and remove the rubber band. Place the comb against the section less than 1 inch from the scalp. Comb towards the scalp until the hair starts to bunch together. Keep combing towards the scalp as you move the comb slowly away from the scalp. Make sure that the hair collects as tightly as possible.

  • 4). Secure the end of the fully combed dread with a rubber band. Place one more rubber band at the base of the dread to hold it in place.

  • 5). Repeat the backcombing process for every section of hair. Apply rubber bands to the end and base of every dread.

  • 6). Apply a dime-sized amount of dread wax to the entire surface of each dread. Use more wax if you have long hair.

  • 7). Allow your dreads to mature for several weeks. Wash them about once a week and then reapply the dread wax to help them maintain their shape as they grow.
