How to Repair a Driveway Using Premix

    • 1). Measure the hole you need to fill in your driveway to determine how much premixed concrete you'll need. Multiply the width by the height by the depth to calculate the volume of the hole in inches. One cubic foot is 144 cubic inches. A 60-pound bag of premixed concrete will fill about half a cubic foot.

    • 2). Pour all of the dry concrete into your wheelbarrow or other large, waterproof, sturdy mixing container.

    • 3). Pour in 1 gallon of water per bag of concrete into the wheelbarrow, unless the directions on the bag state otherwise.

    • 4). Mix thoroughly with the shovel, adding more water if the concrete is too dense or dry to mix properly. It should be about the consistency of applesauce---it should hold a shape and not be too soupy, but it should be easy to mix and shovel.

    • 5). Shovel the concrete into the hole until it is almost full.

    • 6). Smooth the concrete with the board and see if more concrete should be added. If necessary, add more and then smooth again.

    • 7). Shovel any excess concrete back into the wheelbarrow, and then find a safe place to dump it. (A firm, disposable container will work.)

    • 8). Hose off the wheelbarrow or mixing container before the concrete dries and sticks to it permanently.

    • 9). Allow the concrete to dry for 24 hours, or as long as the manufacturer's instructions dictate.
