How to Make a Purse With Bamboo Handles
- 1). Choose your half circle bamboo handles. These bamboo handles are shaped like the letter "D."Be careful and make sure that you choose bamboo handles that are closed, rather than the ones that are open.
- 2). Measure the straight portion of your half circle bamboo handles and add two inches to this measurement. This is the width of your purse.
- 3). Determine how long your purse is going to be. Most purses tend to be less deep than they are wide, but a deep purse can also be quite attractive.
- 4). Cut out two pieces of fabric that have the length and width that you determined above.
- 5). Mark with chalk a spot two inches down from the top on both the right and left edges of one piece of fabric.
- 6). Mark with chalk a spot 1½ inches in from the sides of the fabric along the top edge.
- 7). Draw a line between the the two spots.
- 8). Cut along the line. You should now have a rectangle of fabric with the two uppermost corners cut off.
- 9). Repeat steps 5 through 8 on the other piece of fabric.
- 10
Turn the two pieces of fabric pattern side in and make sure that they line up. - 11
Sew the bottom of the purse and up the sides, stopping when you get to the corner that you have cut off. - 12
Hem the raw edges. - 13
Turn the purse right-side out. - 14
Fold the top edge of one side of the purse over one bamboo handle. - 15
Stitch the fabric down to itself, catching the bamboo handle in a channel. This secures the bamboo handle to the fabric portion of the purse. - 16
Repeat steps 14 and 15 for the other side of your purse.
