How to Make a Drawer Slide Easily

    • 1). Empty all of the contents from the drawer. Remove the drawer from the dresser. Look inside the dresser cavity, once you have removed the drawer, for anything that may be obstructing the drawer. Remove any obstructions.

    • 2). Examine the underside and sides of the drawer, especially the wooden strips that act as rails or guides that the drawer slides on, or that the drawer slides between, when you push the drawer into the dresser. Feel with your fingers along the edges and sides of the drawer for nicks and gouges that could keep the drawer from sliding. Use sandpaper to sand out any rough spots. Check for nails, staples or screws on the drawer and inside the dresser cavity that may have wiggled loose. Use a hammer to pound the nails and staples back in. Use a screwdriver to screw in any loose screws.

    • 3). Apply a generous layer of paraffin wax all along the drawer glides and inside the cabinet by rubbing the stick of paraffin wherever the wood surfaces meet. Align the drawer and slide it back inside the dresser. Pull the drawer in and out a few times to see if it glides better. Apply more paraffin on the glides and inside the dresser if necessary.
