How to Build Snag Lines for Catfish

    • 1). Spool heavy line -- at least 40- to 60-pound test -- onto a heavy-action rod and reel. Rods in the 8- to 9-foot range are good for snagging.

    • 2). Cut a 1-foot piece of fishing line, which will be used as a dropper.

    • 3). Tie a size 8/0 hook to the end of the main line with a Palomar knot.

    • 4). Tie to the eye of the treble hook one end of the piece of line you cut. Loop the line around the shank of the hook, and then around each of the three hooks. When you are done looping the line around the shank and hooks, there should be an extra 8 inches or so.

    • 5). Tie a 5-ounce lead weight to the end of the dropper line.
