How to Make Mehndi

    How to Make Mehndi

    • 1). Ensure that you have quality ingredients. Henna powder should be bright green in color for the best results. Avoid hennas that are intended for hair.

    • 2). Filter the amount of henna powder you wish to use through the strainer, making sure the henna powder is finely sifted after it has gone through the filter. This removes the twigs, fibers and other materials that are commonly found in coarser grains of henna. It further allows the powder to be applied in fine, thin lines by removing coarser fibers from the powder.

    • 3). Place the sifted henna powder in a bowl -- either glass or stainless steel -- and add two teaspoons of lemon juice to the mixture. Add hot tea or coffee one half-cup at a time, mixing the coffee or tea into the powder. Keep adding tea or coffee until the mixture is smooth. The amount of henna powder you are using will affect the amount of tea used. Typically, the mixture will about three parts liquid for every two parts powder.

    • 4). Cover the mixture and set it aside overnight. Make sure to remove all air bubbles from the container before sealing. This allows for the color to set and for the mixture to become homogeneous.

    • 5). Mix a few drops of the Mehndi oil and a teaspoon of sugar into the mixture. Cover the container and allow the paste to set for five more hours.

    • 6). Check the consistency of the mixture. The mixture should come up with a spoon and fall back into the container in strings. If the consistency is too goopy, add more liquid. If it is too watery, add more henna paste. Also, make sure the entire mixture has been blended to a smooth consistency to ensure the best results.

    • 7). Fill a cone with the mehndi and apply in a tattoo design.
