How to Use a Mold Test Kit
- 1). Close all windows in the room. Find a flat surface and place the opened petri dish down.
- 2). Stir the air with a towel or paper fan.
- 3). Place the test strip or open petri dish in the room and allow mold spores to settle on it for one hour.
- 4). Squeeze the directed amount of included activating liquid onto the strip or dish. Then place another film over the strip, or place the lid over the dish.
- 5). Count the number of mold colonies after 48 hours. Then re-check and count the number of colonies after 72 and then 96 hours.
- 6). Secure the petri dish or strip with tape, and ship the results to the lab.
- 1). Wipe the swab against the surface of the mold.
- 2). Wipe the soiled swab between the test strips or petri dish in an "X" pattern.
- 3). Squeeze the suggested amount of the included activating liquid onto the mold sample on the film or petri dish.
- 4). Secure the sample with the petri dish lid or second film strip.
- 5). Check the mold colonies after 72 and 96 hours. If the mold kit requires that you send it back to the lab, secure the sample with tape and send it to the address provided.
- 1). Locate the air vent furthest away from the HVAC system. Open the air vent.
- 2). Remove the lid of the petri dish and tape the open dish to the open air vent. Make sure the open side of the dish is facing the inside of the vent.
- 3). Close all other air vents in the home or building.
- 4). Turn on the HVAC fan on high for 10 minutes. The forced air and any mold that is being carried will adhere to the petri dish.
- 5). Remove the petri dish from the air vent after 10 minutes. Replace the top on the petri dish and allow the sample to incubate for 48 hours.
- 6). Check and count the number of mold spores after 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours. Follow the included instructions to send the sample back to the lab, if necessary.
