How to Drain Half of the Water Out of a Pool

- 1). Turn the pool pump off. Unplug the unit or switch the power to "off." Depending on your model, you may not have an "on/off" switch.
- 2). Place a garden hose into the pool filter outlet valve. Place the opposite end of the hose into a sewer outside your house, or direct the water to a place where it will not overflow or cause the ground to sink. You can also place the hose into a sink drain, if it reaches into the house.
- 3). Open the outlet valve by turning it to the "open" position. Restore power to the pool pump. The water now flows through the pump, into the filter and out the outlet valve. Allow the water to drain until it reaches the desired level.
