- 1). Find a young sapling with a branch on it about 4 to 5 feet long and approximately 3/4 inch in diameter. A live branch that is flexible will make an excellent pole for your fishing rod. However, any sturdy branch or stick will work.
- 2). Cut a piece of fishing line that is 2 feet longer than your branch. You do not have to use actual fishing line. Dental floss or kite string will work. Tie one end of the line to the narrow end of your branch in a tight knot.
- 3). Make a bobber out of a cork and a rubber band. Tightly wrap a rubber band around the middle of a cork from a wine bottle.
- 4). Thread the free end of the fishing line through the rubber band around the bobber. Slide the bobber approximately 2 feet up the fishing line. Slide a couple washers and nuts on the fishing line to act as sinkers. Thread the tip of the fishing line through your fishhook and tie it on using an improved clinch knot.
