Bumblebee Paper Crafts For Preschoolers
- Turn Valentine's yellow and black with a bumblebee treat bag for your youngsters. Start with a plain white flat-bottomed paper bag, and paint the entire bag yellow. While the paint dries, cut a heart out of yellow construction paper. It should be large enough to cover the entire width of the bag at its widest part. Glue on googly eyes, and draw a face with magic markers to serve as the bumblebee's head. Cut another heart out of black paper about twice the size of the yellow heart to use for the wings. Cut half-inch-wide strips of black construction paper for the bumblebee's stripes; make them as long as the width of the treat bag. Glue the strips all the way up the bag equal distances apart on both sides. Glue the yellow heart to the top of one side of the treat bag and the black heart to the other side, both with the points of the hearts pointing to the flat bottom. For antennae, wrap a black pipe cleaner around a pencil to curl it, cut it in half and glue the ends to the inside of the bag near the head.
- With preschoolers, you'll find it easiest to cut all the components of a craft before class so all they have to do is follow directions and glue the pieces together. For a simple paper roll bumblebee, cut a paper towel roll in half, or use a toilet paper roll, and glue on a large rectangular piece of yellow construction paper to cover the entire tube. Glue black strips of construction paper around the tube for the bumblebee's stripes. Cut a circle with tabs on opposite sides from yellow paper large enough to cover the hole in the tube. Draw a face, add googly eyes and glue the tabs to either side of one end of the tube. For wings, cut a large, narrow heart from black, yellow or white paper and glue it to the topside of the tube. Cut a stinger from black paper, and glue it to the inside of the opposite end of the paper roll.
- Use paper plates for an easy crafting canvas. Paint the paper plate yellow, and allow it to dry. Next glue on black stripes or draw them on with black marker. On one side, draw a face and add googly eyes and pipe-cleaner antennae. Cut a large heart from wax paper for wings; with the point of the heart facing the bumblebee's head, gently glue or scotch tape the wings in place. Cut a triangle of black construction paper for the bumblebee's stinger, and glue it to the underside of the plate.
- The best paintbrush for preschoolers is their thumbprint. Using half a sheet of card paper, use light blue paper for the sky and green construction paper for grass and flower stems, and glue it to the card. Cut flower shapes for your students with simple shapes such as circles and scallops, and have them glue them to the top of the flower stems. Paint each child's thumb with yellow paint, and have them stamp the paper around the flowers. Once the paint has dried, use a magic marker to draw on black stripes, wings and little antennae.
