Homemade Vampire Costume for a Child
- 1). Lay the black fabric on a length of red fabric with the same matte satin finish, and use it as a pattern to cut a rectangle in the red fabric. The length of the black fabric should be approximately the length of the child measured vertically from the knees to the shoulders, and it should be about as wide as the child's shoulder blades.
- 2). Fold the black fabric approximately 1/2 inch in on all sides, with wrong sides together. Do the same with the red fabric.
- 3). Pin the fold down on each side with straight pins on both the black and red fabric.
- 4). Sew the hems down on each rectangular length of fabric with a straight stitch, using black thread for the black fabric and red thread for the red fabric.
- 5). Sew a length of black satin ribbon on the inside of one short edge of the black rectangle of fabric using a straight stitch. This ribbon should extend at least 6 inches on either side of the cloth rectangle.
- 6). Sew the two lengths of fabric together by using a straight stitch around the edges, with matte satin sides facing outward. Sew approximately 1/4 inch away from the edge of the hemmed fabric.
- 7). Starch and iron the collar of the white dress shirt so that the collar looks stiff and pointed.
- 8). Tuck the dress shirt securely into the black dress pants once the child is wearing both items of clothing. Use shiny leather oxfords or similar dress shoes to complete the look.
- 9). Slick the child's hair straight back, away from the face, using hair gel. Run a comb through the hair.
- 10
Outline your child's eyes gently with black eyeliner, taking care not to irritate her eyes. - 11
Draw drops of blood around the corners of the child's mouth using bright red lipstick or a nontoxic, washable red marker. - 12
Wrap the finished black and red cape around the child's neck, black side out, tying the ribbon together loosely underneath the collar. Cut the ribbon shorter if necessary.
