How to Cover Outdated Tile Walls

    • 1). Allow the FRP panels to become acclimated to the room where they are going to be installed for at least 24 hours prior to beginning installation.

    • 2). Ensure that the tiled walls are clean and free of any debris that may cause unsightly bumps under the FRP panels. Allow the walls to dry thoroughly before continuing.

    • 3). Pre-drill all the rivet holes in each panel before attempting to install. Each pre-drilled hole should be one-quarter inch in diameter to use one-eighth-inch rivets and spaced at 12-inch intervals. The holes must be larger than the rivets to allow for expansion of the panels with exposure to moisture and humidity. Use a carbide drill tip to avoid damaging the panels.

    • 4). Install the first panel beginning in a corner. Secure the panel to the tile with one-eighth-inch rivets inserted in each pre-drilled hole. Always wear eye protection when drilling into tile, as it causes much dust and debris that can cause injury.

    • 5). Apply a thin layer of silicone sealant to the edge of the connection channel, slide it onto the open edge of the FRP panel, and then pull back away from the panel one-eighth inch to allow for expansion. Secure the connection channel with a rivet at the top, middle and bottom locations so it cannot slide all the way against either adjacent panel.

    • 6). Install all panels in the same manner, sliding each panel into the previous connection channel and securing it, until you have installed the panels all the way around the room.
