5 Common SEO Mistakes You Should Avoid

If you are new to online business, I am sure that the last thing you have in mind is search engine optimization or SEO.
With all the things that require your attention, why should you even give keyword phrases and back links a thought? Well, the answer is quite simple.
It is because SEO strategies will help determine the success of your new business.
In fact, it doesn't really matter how great your services or products are.
What matters is your online presence.
If potential costumers can't find you online, then don't expect to earn anything from your website.
However, implementing SEO techniques is not as easy as it seems because there are different elements that search engines look for before they put your page on top ranks.
So, without further ado, here are the common SEO mistakes that you should avoid.
1.
Giving your website pages a similar title.
The title is usually the first thing that catches the attention of the readers before they actually read anything.
So, you need to make sure that the titles you use for your pages are relevant, unique and must directly reflect your site's content.
Don't forget to incorporate your primary keywords into the title.
If you try to name your pages with a single title, search engines will think that they all have the same content and then, penalize your website.
Because this is a very common mistake by website builders, there is now a technology which automatically spots and warns for any similarity among page titles.
2.
Stuffing your content with keywords.
A few years back, stuffing keywords into an article, making it a non-sense compilation of keywords is an effective way of placing a website on the top pages of search engines.
However, that practice eventually came to an end and any website caught still doing so will be penalized.
To avoid being black listed, make sure that all your content are readable, of high quality and contains just the right amount of keywords.
3.
Usingbad URLs.
Similar to a broken link, a bad URL will take you nowhere.
In other words, it is a link which cannot be clicked on or visited.
Make sure that your website does not contain even a single bad URL.
4.
Using site maps and broken links.
There is nothing wrong with using a site map.
In fact, it helps the search engine robot to understand which of your pages link to other pages.
A broken link however, will cause you so much trouble.
Just like any person, the search engine robot is more likely to disregard your site if it finds out that your links will lead nowhere.
5.
Using more images than text.
There's no arguing that images contribute to the overall appeal of a website.
However, overuse of images and focusing less on the text content of your website would do your business no good.
Search engines usually require at least 250-300 words to get a good idea of what your content is all about.
So, make sure you use just enough images and texts to give both the search engine robot and your visitors a clear idea of what your website has to offer.
