How to Clean Plastic-Coated Sheetrock With Steam Cleaners

    • 1). Fill the steam cleaner tank with water while it is unplugged. Push the widest nozzle attachment onto the end of the steam cleaner hose.

    • 2). Plug in and turn on the steam cleaner and allow the machine to heat the water. Most machines have a heating indicator light.

    • 3). Place towels on the floor under the walls to catch any moisture runoff.

    • 4). Position the end of the nozzle at the top corner of the wall. Pull the steam-release trigger. Slowly move the nozzle straight down the wall. Work across the wall in long, downward, overlapping strokes.

    • 5). Stop steaming after completing a small section, and wipe away the dislodged dirt and grime with a rag or sponge. Continue working in small sections at a time.

    • 6). Remove the widest nozzle attachment and replace it with a detail attachment. Steam hard-to-reach areas such as corners and around fixtures.

    • 7). Inspect the wall and make second passes with the steam cleaner over any areas where dirt or grime is still evident.
