How to Make My Own Couch Covers Using Sheets

    • 1). Measure the length of your couch so you know how many bed sheets you will need for the project. Measure the height of the couch as well as the width of the seat. Depending on whether your couch is located against a wall, you may also need to cover the back of your couch as well. You will want the surface area of your bed sheet to be at least four inches longer on each side than the sofa measurement. Use flat, not fitted, sheets. You may need more than one for bigger couches.

    • 2). Remove the cushions and lay the clean sheet over the couch. If you are using two sheets, you may need to use scissors to cut one to match the shape of the couch. Smooth out the wrinkles and tuck the sheet into all of the corners.

    • 3). Use fabric tacks to tack the sheet to the couch in locations where the tacks will not be seen. Fold the edges of your sheet under the couch and tack underneath. Tack along the seat area that will be covered by cushions. The trickiest area to tack will be the armrests. You may have to tack just under the armrest, which will make the tacks visible. Use tacks that match the color of your sheet fabric.

    • 4). Tug gently on the sheet to see if it stays in place, and replace the cushions onto your newly covered couch.
