How to Find Public Land
- 1). Obtain a map of public lands through the Bureau of Land management. These maps are available at a BLM main office, as well as at numerous sporting goods and outdoor recreation stores. The maps can illustrate public land boundaries, mining areas, recreation areas and hunting areas. Topographic maps are also available for hiking or trekking.
- 2). Contact your state's department of natural resources, or for the state you're traveling to. They can provide you with detailed maps of the public lands within the state.
- 3). Contact a National or State park headquarters and inquire about public land. The park headquarters office or a Park Ranger can assist you with finding public land.
- 4). Ask local hunters or hunting outfitters about public lands in your area. Numerous hunts take place on public land. These hunters and outfitters may have maps of the region detailing the boundaries of public lands for hunting and recreation use.
